    Reggie Workman: At first I was just teaching bass and substituting for Chris White when he couldn't make it, when he'd be out with Nina Simone or somebody. Then I began to start dealing with more assignments to work there as time went on. When Bill Barron got sick and died from a heart attack, they needed a director for the music department and they asked me to do it, so I got more involved.
