    It was worse than that. I avoided the conservatory, knowing I couldn't read, by there were certain requirements that you had to do. You had to play other instruments: brass or windwind or string. Finally, you had to pass basic keyboard. I avoided that by taking clarinet. You were usually just learning the scales and simple pieces. I'd already taken cello from Dr. Brown's wife.
