No. I'm from a family that never talked much about backgrounds and what-not, except for a few things that I learned from them at an early age. I used to, as a young kid, I'd sneak under the bed and listen to their conversation and I learned a great deal about the past through that. They never allowed the kids to sit in on conversations when they had company or anything like that.
