He had to leave Kansas City, becauseeverything you had to have a strong beat, like Fats Waller swinging thing. beat like, for example, the Bennie Moten band, some of the earlier records of the Bennie Moten band are very... but once Count Basie and Walter Page and some of those people came in about 1930, the sound changed decidedly. It was lighter.
