Well basically, being a band leader is much more than playing the right notes, like you said. And that's what a lot of people, I was witness to a concert that Roy Hargrove did as one of his first concerts after recording and having a band. And the programming was abominable. He did not know how to program his music to make this audience feel like they wanted to be a part of what was happening ...
