' Vanessa Rubin: Chief Bey and some of his crew would be over there [ Lena Horne Bandshell], and I mean they would drum for like three, four hours. And of course it would attract horn players and some people would come and play horn with the drums. But it was mostly a drum thing. African drums. Big African influence in Brooklyn all the time, always has been.
