That's right, you have to. You have to preface the notes with little lead-ins, especially when it's real slow -- te-te-te-bamm -- or a little da-dit-en-dit-en-duh. You can do triplets, you could do sixteenths, you could do something. As long as the downbeats are where they're supposed to be.
