    Well, you can, but you can't shift overnight; you have to rehearse with them. We went in there and started blowing. Oscar Pettiford was great to play with because we composed at least 3 tunes a night or more. He'd start a bass figure and I would play, and that is really my schtick, my whole way of doing. I like to compose while I'm playing. We had a great session going except then he was crazy ...
