    Discrete. Any kind of rhythmic pattern they want. False fingering, or octaves or shakes, fall offs, or riffs or doinks or whatever, a lot of the things that are incorporated in the Italian diction we can't use in jazz. They won't express it very well. You can't hardly say to a cat on the bandstand "let's play some `largo blues. '" We have some far more descriptive terminology that we use.
