‡ Mensah Wali: I saw ‡ Danny Mixon this past July [2010] at the [African Arts] Festival in ‡ Brooklyn and one thing he mentioned was ‡ The East punch, and you hear from other guys and they’ll talk about the Kawaida Rice… It was our creativity and it was also the fact that we were trying to develop something that was wholesome for the whole family. If you had a child that you couldn’t find a babysitter for it wouldn’t be a problem bringing your child to [‡ The East] to hear this divine music. We didn’t serve any alcoholic drinks and that whole environment was completely different fromwhere you would hear jazz in the rest of the world.
